Palin: wrong woman, wrong message, By Gloria Steinem

Found on my girl PlainsFeminist' blog, a Gloria Steinem essay in the LA Times that you must, must, must read. Below are a few excerpts.

Palin's value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women's wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves "abstinence-only" programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use taxpayers' millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn't spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.

I don't doubt her sincerity. As a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assn., she doesn't just support killing animals from helicopters, she does it herself. She doesn't just talk about increasing the use of fossil fuels but puts a coal-burning power plant in her own small town. She doesn't just echo McCain's pledge to criminalize abortion by overturning Roe vs. Wade, she says that if one of her daughters were impregnated by rape or incest, she should bear the child. She not only opposes reproductive freedom as a human right but implies that it dictates abortion, without saying that it also protects the right to have a child.

Run. Read. Now.

Palin's innate stupidity and screechy accent right out of the movie 'Fargo' are starting to annoy even the idiots on the right.
Her 15 minutes are about up, and I think she had 12 minutes too many.

Thanks for the link, Katie! I've read the essay and passed it on, along with an invitation for more of my fellow Canucks to respond to the meme ...

Here's a link to another favourite blog of mine, Kiko's House (http://kikoshouse.blogspot.com/). More excellent food for thought .. and action!

Best,

You are wrong, Jewish cunt .. ah ... girl.
Sarah (who is btw. not Jewish) is the best choice ever. I've no questioning about my capabilities since her nomination. Nobody speaks about that black guy Obama and every white citizen is talking about Sarah.
You just don't understand with your small female Jewish brain.
I will be the next president.

Wanna know the difference between Sarah Palin and a scary, religious egomaniac?

Nothing.

Margaret Cho posted a link to this interesting tidbit on Violet Blue's blog about who Palin believes should pay for forensic rape tests.

What is that cunty widget of Obama doing on your website, Katty?
Don't you know he's not Jewish but black? He's doing business with the Arabs! He is against Israel!
Vote for me.
I will take that oil from the Arabs and help the Jewish going back to Israel.

I find it very interesting that the RWAs (RightWingAuthority type personality disorder people) couldn't wait to scream victory at washed out Camille Paglia's support of Palin (I think perhaps she needed meds, is going prematurely senile or really really wanted some attention). I wonder how many of those RWAs will now also weigh in on Steinem's take, since they are now the Party of Feminism.

My guess is a resounding ZERO.

After comments made about Palin on Margaret Cho's blog infuriated Margaret, she commented about them and Christianity which you'll love. Have a read of this and click away. Hi Katie!
